What type of storage product should you buy if you have a huge amount of data to store and wants to keep it safe from loss or corruption?
Small to medium enterprises IT usually faces this dilemma when they run out of spaces and need to find a new storage product that are cost-effective, scalable, and reliable. Indeed, this happened to Alvin Liang, a web and backend developer at JoVE. JoVE is the first journal devoted to the publication of biological research in a video format. They use video technology to capture and transmit the multiple facets and intricacies of life science research. Alvin Liang was looking for a solution that was quiet, fast and reliable to store video footages from their publication, and he chose EnhanceBox E10 PM. “We edit hundreds of hours of raw video footage for our publication, so we need fast, reliable storage for day-to-day use,” said Alvin.
The implementation was simple, they just plug-in the drives, connect cables, flip switches, and set up RAID software (included with separate RAID card). “The E10 PM is very quiet and reliable, and has a nice slim profile fitting well next to our file server,” stated Alvin. For their file server, they hooked up the E10 PM enclosure to a Dell Vostro equipped with a RocketRaid 2314 RAID controller card which runs with Windows Vista Business. The file server can handle up to 20 clients at any one time. The E10 PM is straightforward to set up, says Alvin, “It has good performance and capacity, and everyone at the company has been friendly and helpful.” He also mentioned that the key benefit of E10 PM is the large capacity, “10 drive bays is a lot of space, and we may need them soon!”
The EnhanceBOX E10 comes in dual configurations, the native PM model offers pure speed that pushes the box over 400MB/sec viable to an expensive SCSI box, while the hybrid CS model packs multiple I/O ports (FireWire 400 / 800 and USB 2.0) in one box for universal connectivity. Some great key features include aluminum material construction, built-in SATA II compatible backplane,
ten (10+) removable HDD drive trays with individual keylock, one hot-swappable enclosure fan facilitates regular maintenance, one thumbscrew enabled front door with optical LED indicators, fan-fail LED and alarm with mute button and power & status LED indicators on the door.

JoVE was founded in October 2006 as the first journal devoted to video publication of biological research. This new method of publication leads to improved visualization and reproducibility of published studies compared to traditional print publication. JoVE has released 23 monthly issues with over 300 video protocols on experimental approaches in developmental biology, neuroscience, microbiology and other fields. To facilitate integration of video into scientific publishing, JoVE also assists scientists with filming in laboratories and video editing.

The E10 PM model is a 10-Disk Desktop JBOD/RAID storage system that houses eight (10) 3Gbp/s SATA disks. With a built-in port multiplier bridge board that equipped with the popular port multiplier technology, the E10 PM is an ideal direct attach storage(DAS) solution for audio production, digital video editing, advanced gamers, and IT professionals.
