Q1: What is the default Login name and Default password for GUI management?
- A: Login name: admin; Default password: 1234

Q2: Can Enhance-tech USB/FW/eSATA RAID system support disk array over 2TB?
- A: Only eSATA interface support disk array over 2TB in EB4-CR/EB4H-CR/R4-CR RAID system but not USB/FW400/800 interface.

Q3: Can Enhance-tech iSCSI RAID System setup multiple links in the same subnet?
- A: All of our iSCSI units (RS8/16-IP4, IP and E320-IP) allow multiple iSCSI data links in the same subnet

Q4: Why Adaptec 39320 only can get 160MB/sec when we try to implement Enhance-tech SCSI product in Red Hat Enterprise 5?
- A: Adaptec 39320’s driver for Linux can only run 160MB/sec in Linux.

Q5: Is our product support replication feature?
- A: Only P120c (Previous RS8/16-IP) support replication feature but not any more.

Q6: Is Enhance Tech RS series product support 2TB HDD?
- A: So far, we only support “Westem Digital RE4, WD2002FYPS, 2TB, IntelliPower, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 64M; FW: 04.05G04”. Since 2TB drive gets really slow performance in “Rebuild Status”, we strongly recommend customer to use RAID 6 array configuration or 1TB drive instead 1.5TB, 2TB drive. It will avoid second drive fail during the rebuilding.

Q7: How to configure RS 232 serial port to manage the RS / R / T series RAID box?
- A: Baud rate: 115200, 8 data bit, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control. Terminal type: vt100 Login name: admin Default password: 1234

Q8: Is Enhance Tech products support SSH?
- A: Yes, but only for RS / R / T series RAID box.

Q9: How to configure SSH?
- A: SSH (secure shell) software is required for remote login. The SSH client software is available at the following web site: SSH Tectia Client: http://www.ssh.com/ PuTTY: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/ Host name: 192.168.10.50 (Please check the DHCP address first on LCM.) Login name: admin Default password: 1234

Q10: How many snapshots can be created on a VD (Virtual Disk)?
- A: There are up to 32 snapshots can be created on a UDV (User Data Volume)/VD. What if the 33rd snapshot has been taken? There are two different situations: 1. If the snapshot is configured as auto snapshot, the latest one (the 33rd snapshot) will replace the oldest one (the first snapshot) and so on. 2. If the snapshot is taken manually, when taking the 33rd snapshot will fail and a warning message will be showed on Web UI.

Q11: What if the snapshot space is over?
- A: Before using snapshot, a snapshot space is needed from RG (RAID Group) capacity. After a period of working snapshot, what if the snapshot size over the snapshot space of user defined? There are two different situations: 1. If there are two or more snapshots existed, the system will try to remove the oldest snapshots (to release more space for the latest snapshot) until enough space is released. 2. If there is only one snapshot existed, the snapshot will fail. Because the snapshot space is run out.

Q12: How Rollback / Delete snapshot function act?
- A: When a snapshot has been rollbacked, the other snapshots which are earlier than it will also be removed. But the rest snapshots will be kept after rollback. If a snapshot has been deleted, the other snapshots which are earlier than it will also be deleted. The space occupied by these snapshots will be released after deleting.

Q13: How to setup RS8/16-IP4 with MPIO feature in Windows OS?
- A: Here is the step by step to setup Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. Please visit Microsoft website for latest iSCSI initiator. The following setup may not use the latest Microsoft iSCSI initiator.
  
  1. Run Microsoft iSCSI Initiator.
  2. Click “Discovery”.
  3. Click “Add”. Input IP address or DNS name of iSCSI storage device.

  5. Click “Targets”.

  6. Click “Log On”. Check “Enable multi-path” if running MPIO.

  7. Click “Advance…” if CHAP information is needed.

  9. Done, it can connect to an iSCSI disk.
  The following procedure is to log off iSCSI device.
  1. Click “Details” in “Targets”.
  2. Check the Identifier, which will be deleted.
  3. Click “Log off”.
  4. Done, the iSCSI device log off successfully.

Q14: How buzzer reacts in Ultra Store RS series and how to mute the buzzer during the trouble shooting?
- A: The system buzzer features are listed below:
  
  1. The system buzzer alarms 1 second when system boots up successfully.
  
  2. The system buzzer alarms continuously when there is error occurred. The alarm will be stopped after error resolved or be muted.
  
  3. The alarm will be muted automatically when the error is resolved. E.g., when RAID 5 is degraded and alarm rings immediately, user changes / adds one physical disk for rebuilding. When the rebuilding is done, the alarm will be muted automatically.
  
  Mute the buzzer: LCM: Enter ▼ Alarm Mute: Mute alarm when error occurs.

Q15: Is there any way to prevent data corrupts after rollback of snapshot in RS, R or T series RAID systems?
- A: On Linux and UNIX platform, a command named sync can be used to make the operating system flush data from write caching into disk. For Windows platform, Microsoft also provides a tool – sync, which can do exactly the same thing as the sync command in Linux/UNIX. It will tell the OS to flush the data on demand.   Besides the sync tool, Microsoft develops VSS (volume shadow copy service) to prevent this issue. VSS is a mechanism for creating consistent point-in-time copies of data known as shadow copies. It is a coordinator between backup software, application (SQL or Exchange…) and storages to make sure the snapshot without the problem of data-inconsistent. Q16: Why sometimes the data corrupts after rollback of snapshot in RS, R or T series RAID systems?
- A: When user modifies the data from host, the data will pass through file system and memory of the host (write caching). Then the host will flush the data from memory to physical disks, no matter the disk is local disk (IDE or SATA), DAS (SCSI or SAS), or SAN (Fibre or iSCSI). From the viewpoint of storage device, it cannot control the behavior of host side. This case maybe happens. If user takes a snapshot, some data is still in memory and not flush to disk. Then the snapshot may have an incomplete image of original data. The problem does not belong to the storage device. To avoid this data inconsistent issue between snapshot and original data, user has to make the operating system flush the data from memory of host (write caching) into disk before taking snapshot.

Q1: Is it possible to connect both ports into the same VMware ESX server?
- A: Regarding RS8/16-SS with LSI-3801e maps Lun0 to Port 1 and Lun1 to Port 2. In this case, it only can find one of LUN on the host. So it is not recommended to do like this.

Q2:

Is it possible to connect two ESX 4 vSphere servers to share the same LUN in RS8/16-SS?

A: Regarding the configuration on RS8/16-SS, we confirmed that 2 ESX 4 vSphere servers with LSI 3801e HBA to connect into RS8/16-SS and share the same LUN is possible. About the vMotion feature on RS8/16-SS we did no verify yet. But we verified the vMotion feature with the RS8/16-IP4.

Q3: How can I configure RS16 IP-4 with VMware ESX 3.5 and 4.0 servers?
- A: RS16 IP-4 is certified by VMware ESX 3.5 and 4.0 servers. The RS16 IP-4 VMware ESX 3.5 Installation Guide and RS16 IP-4 VMware ESX 4.0 Installation Guide provide step by step configuration instructions.
